Warren Jeffs

In Texas on Tuesday Warren Jeffs was sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting two underage followers he took as brides. He will be eligible for parole in 35 years.

Jeffs is the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which split from the main Mormon church over 100 years ago. He has referred to himself as a prophet, the sect he leads believes polygamy is the path to heaven.

During the trial, prosecutors presented DNA evidence to show Jeffs had fathered a child with a 15-year-old girl, and an audio recording of him sexually assaulting a 12-year-old. The jury heard other tapes in which Jeffs was heard instructing his young wives on how to satisfy him sexually, which he said would please God.

"If the world knew what I was doing, they would hang me from the highest tree," Jeffs wrote in notes, seized from his Texas ranch.

When police raided the Texas ranch they found women dressed in frontier-style dresses and underage girls who were clearly pregnant.

A sound decision from the US courts and a clear indication that Nick should warm up the oven for him. Definitely unforgiven!

Jason Owen

Much has been said lately about Sharon Shoesmith, but we should remember that she wasn't the person who beat and tortured Baby Peter Connelly to death.

On Friday , 5th August one of his murderers is - unbelievably - due for release. The sadistic bastard played a key part in manipulating his weak willed brither who was baby Peter's stepfather.

Owen was always a liability. Childhood friends said his extremist links impressed his younger brother Stephen, who later became obsessed with Nazis. Steven Barker even taught baby Peter to perform a "Sieg Heil" salute as a sick joke.

There was a chilling hint of what was to come when the brothers were arrested in November 1995 for allegedly torturing their own grandmother. The pair were said to have locked 82-year-old Hilda Barker in her wardrobe while demanding she change her will in their favour. The terrified pensioner even claimed her grandsons wore Guy Fawkes masks to terrorise her before beating her black and blue.

It is difficult to have any confidence in a criminal justice system that releases a man like this after such a short sentence for what he did to a toddler. It is even reported that he is to have plastic surgery to change his appearance to protect him from reprisals.

Once again, a travesty of justice and sick timing - coming as it does the very week it looks like Shoesmith is set to make millions out of the tragedy.

I hope they do find him and he gets what he deserves. Ready the oven, Nick!

Sharon Shoesmith

The former child protection boss Sharon Shoesmith is in line for compensation estimated at up to £1m after judges rejected applications to challenge a ruling that she was unfairly sacked following the Baby P tragedy.

The Supreme Court decision sparked a call for an urgent change in the law from the former children's secretary Ed Balls, who removed Ms Shoesmith as Haringey Council's director of children's services after a damning report on the death of Peter Connelly. The Department for Education said it was "very disappointed" at the decision and insisted that the Government still believes Ms Shoesmith's removal was "right in principle". It's not often I agree with Ed Balls, but even he has to right at least once?

Ms Shoesmith's career was left in ruins after she was removed from her £133,000-a-year post by Mr Balls and then fired by the north London council without compensation in December 2008. Her lawyers argued that she was the victim of a media witch-hunt. No not a media witch hunt - a richly derserved public pillorying!

If I was the judge, I'd award her £1 - and that's £1 more than she deserves! Let's burn the bitch, Nick!
